A Model Shop's Story
Every good idea starts with a problem and mine was simple!
... I needed a job
Ok ... whilst this is true it's not quite the full story!
Dynomodels was born from a young boy’s passion for the RC Model hobby and here's our story…
... as told by it's founder Adam Price.
Like most young boys growing up I’ve always liked RC stuff but I developed a real passion for the hobby when I was 9 years old.
It all started when a friend took me to an indoor flying session at an RC model club. I had such a great time that I had to get a plane of my own and I would go along to the club regularly.
Below is a video of one of the sessions where I was test flying a new Elite UMX AS3XTRA.
Not only was this a great social time I also learned a lot of helpful technical information which is knowledge I pass on to my customers today.
As the years went on I added to the collection of models covering almost every type there is going and by the time I had to start to think about what I wanted to do when I left school I was dreaming of owning a model shop.
I would imagine just how great it would be to work in that environment surrounded by the very things I am passionate about and talking to like minded people on a daily basis.
When I was 16 I managed to get a Saturday job working in a Model Shop which just reinforced my desire to be doing this type of work full time for myself.
So I decided to go to college and learn business studies in the hope that it would give me the foundations I needed to run the business I so much desired.
My tutor was all too aware of my dream to own a model shop so in my final year of college she put me in touch with Rotherham Youth Enterprise who along with my parents helped me to bring my dream into reality.
Surprisingly what I thought would be the easy bit turned out to be the hardest and that was finding premises!
I had planned to open at the beginning of September and by August had still not found anything suitable so I was feeling a bit deflated.
Then just as I was beginning to think it wasn’t going to happen I was driving through Laughton and noticed a vacant shop and luckily the landlord was also understanding and willing to give me a chance.
At last I had found the much needed premises and was ready to go ….
I got the keys on 1st September 2015 and managed to get all my suppliers on board just in the nick of time. Here it is below ...
..... I was so excited that day!
The original shop opened on 14 September 2015!
Thanks to all our customers it has grown quite considerably since then meaning that I had to move premises to a bigger place in November 2017. Here's the new shop.
We now have a shop front area with a warehouse and workshop behind where we carry out model building and customer repairs.
I have even managed to get a few new members of staff ....
I can highly recommend these two.
.... hard workers, no complaints, customer's love them and they prefer to be paid in dog biscuits too! They were working so fast that day that the picture is blurred!
So who says dreams don't come true!
Mine certainly has and I'm enjoying every minute of it.
...... surrounded by the models I love and socialising with like minded people on a daily basis.
My job is my hobby and my hobby is my job.
So that’s the Dynomodels story …..
As for it’s future well …
I’m already dreaming that up too ….
My major objective has and always will be to serve the people who enjoy the hobby just like me.
