Q. My Nitro Car Will Not Start.
A. All models are supplied with a comprehensive instruction manual and many of the HPI models come with a DVD which includes a tutorial on how to start your Nitro Car too so be sure to have watched the DVD or read your manual carefully and thoroughly in the first instance.

If after following the correct starting procedure your car still does not start make sure the engine is set to it's factory base settings. You can find this information in the instruction manual.

If after trying all of the above your engine still does not start telephone us on 01909 561000 or send us an email and we will be happy to give you any further help and advice.

Q. My Engine Stalls When I Remove The Glow Starter.
A. The 2 possible problems for this are:

1) The glow plug needs replacing. You can find a range of glow plugs available on our website.

2) Your engine may be set too rich so return it to it's factory base settings which you can find in the instruction manual and start the tuning process again.

Q. My Nitro Car Stalls When I Apply The Brake.
A. This can occur when the idle speed is set too low. To change the idle speed setting turn the idle screw 1/2 turn clockwise and then try starting the car again with the wheels off the ground. The idle screw is identified in the instruction manual. Then apply the brakes on your transmitter and start turning the idle screw slowly anti-clockwise until the engine stalls. Once it has stalled you can then turn the idle screw a 1/8 turn clockwise again.

A correctly set car should stand still when the engine is idling. This may have to be set higher on a brand new car which is ok as long as it doesn't move faster than a walking pace and after a few tanks of fuel you should be able to adjust it back down without it stalling.

Q. Why Does The One Way Bearing Fail?
A. This is normally caused when it is overloaded by attempting to start the engine when it is flooded. If the engine is flooded the pullstart will become difficult to pull or the rotostart will jam. You should not continue to attempt to start the car.  You will need to remove the glow plug and clear the engine first as shown in the instructional DVD provided with your car.
Q. Why Do My Spur Gears Keep Stripping?
A. The spur gear is the plastic gear that turns the drive train on your car. If it keeps stripping it is because either the pinion gear does not have the correct mesh with the spur gear or there is a possible loose motor or engine. This is not a manufacturing fault but it will keep happening unless you ensure the mesh is correct and the motor or engine screws are not loose. See the "How To Set Your Model's Gear Mesh" FAQ later in this section.
